What happens when two physical therapists refuse to accept diagnostic uncertainty?
In a healthcare system where the average musculoskeletal diagnosis takes 4 provider visits, and patients wait weeks for imaging results, Drs. Colin Rigney and Ryan Martin chose a different path.
The Diagnostic Awakening tells their story: from frustrated clinicians trapped in a broken referral system to founders of AMSKU, a training center transforming how practitioners approach point-of-care diagnostics. This isn’t a textbook. It’s a manifesto for clinical independence.
Inside you’ll discover:Why the current referral-dependent model fails patients and practitionersHow RMSK certification elevates your clinical credibilitySeven declarations for a new standard of musculoskeletal careA practical framework for integrating diagnostic ultrasoundThe mentorship model producing confident, competent clinicians
Whether you’re a physical therapist, athletic trainer, chiropractor, or physician assistant frustrated by diagnostic delays, this book challenges you to ask: What if you could know—with certainty—what’s happening inside your patient’s body, right now? The revolution in musculoskeletal care starts with clinicians who refuse to guess.

    A fascinating read
This book is concise, and clearly identifies the problems faced by today’s medical providers. The authors, drawing upon their own experiences, offer a streamlined, yet personal approach to treating their own patients in a prompt, compassionate manner. It’s a good read for medical professionals, yet is educational from the patient’s perspective as well. The personal anecdotes about what shaped their “awakenings” was fascinating. I couldn’t put it down!

If you are a DPT, MD, DO, DC, ATC…read this book and contact these guys!
This is how medicine used to be and how medicine is now coming full circle to be again hopefully. Colin and Ryan are the world’s leaders in diagnostic ultrasound, everybody knows that already, but how they got there is really an amazing story and a great read! Great job Colin and Ryan and congratulations on putting together a great book!If you are looking to not only add ultrasound to your practice, but radically transform your practice and your care of patients for the better, this book is a must read and contact them for comprehensive training!

    Unrivaled Insights
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Colin and Ryan and now had the pleasure of reading this book. Their insights into the world of musculoskeletal ultrasound and journey in teaching is unrivaled and I particularly loved the emphasis on how it can change a medical practice. I have seen my own practice exponentially grow with the use of ultrasound. It’s enabled patients to be able to get same day answers to their musculoskeletal issues (providing prompt diagnosis) and expedites care and treatment plan tremendously. If you are interested in MSK ultrasound this is simply a must read and I recommend it without reservation.

    Paradigm Shifter
I have had the pleasure to see these principles in practice in my own life and business and can say without a doubt that they are the future of MSK diagnostics. Speed, precision, and communication are paramount to the patient experience and these methods are far superior to the standard of care.

If you want to level up…read this.
This is the kind of story that people read 10 years from now and think, “dang, they really were onto something weren’t they…”This is the kind of story, mindset, and organization the profession needs to truly level up!

    Why Diagnostic Clarity Matters
This book puts into words what so many clinicians feel every day. As a healthcare professional, I found it validating, inspiring, and honestly such a refreshing read. It challenges the usual “wait and see” mindset and highlights why diagnostic clarity really matters—for both patients and providers. Not a textbook vibe at all… more like a much‑needed mindset shift. Highly recommend if you’re in healthcare or just love books that make you think.
