    Excellent Instruction for Photographers
I’ve learned a lot from Scott Kelby, so when I finally decided to purchase Lightroom 6 (DVD–I’m not pleased with all of these software subscription plans), this book was an easy choice. Mr. Kelby does an excellent job of explaining the “how-to’s” and getting you started without feeling overwhelmed. I appreciate that he recommends certain settings, so you don’t have to guess. (You can always change them, if you find a need for something different.) That said, LR is a complex program, so plan to take your time. Read a chapter and try it out before going on to the next one. There are files you can download to practice with if you don’t want to use your own pics. The Kelby One website is also a fantastic resource for photographers, if you want to learn more about photography and photo editing, and gives you unlimited access to world class instruction. (For the record, I have never met Scott Kelby & have no connection with his company whatsoever.)

Dig into Lightroom with Scott Kelby
Mr. Kelby is a very good writer. He covers an enormous amount of information in this large book and he makes the reading very interesting. His writing style is conducive to reading. Also, the very large collection of photos used to illustrate the program features are outstanding, professional quality photos for sure. He practices what he preaches in the book, and he makes many suggestions and recommendations aligned with his preferences. That is a nice trait. I don’t adopt all his suggestions because I’m not a professional photographer, but his preferences are informative and useful to the reader.

Very useful if you are planning to start using Lightroom
Extremely useful book for the beginning Lightroom user. I have used Photoshop for many years, and more recently began using Adobe Creative Cloud for Photographers, for the convenience, and that subscription also gave me access to Lightroom. So it was time to start using it! I have a very large archive, perhaps 100,000 images, of family and travel photos going back to the beginning of the last century, many of them scanned prints and slides, as well as more recent digital captures. This book is especially useful to think about your workflow going forward, but less attention is paid to situations of converting such an archive. Nevertheless, this book provides a simple workflow that is very likely to work for you and that largely works for me. So this book is not so much an exhaustive presentation of all the functionality and the use of every possible value of any setting or variable, but the emphasis is more on an easy and efficient workflow for most situations. I have only used the most basic functionality so far in the Lightroom Develop module, but Kelby gives a very easy to understand of this complex area, and especially if you have been using the advanced features of Photoshop you will intuitively grasp what is going on. I would have liked to see more on the creating of web albums and websites from Lightroom, as well as other Adobe and third party products for doing so. Kelby spends a lot of time on Lightroom mobile, and this is very valuable information, because much of this functionality is not readily apparent if you just open up the app and poke around. It would also be nice to see more about third-party LR presets to get a feel for what is available, especially develop presets.

    Learn Lightroom with Ease
After checking out an older version of this book twice from our local library, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the updated version for myself. I am just learning Lightroom, and this book has been awesome for that purpose. To be clear, this book is great for learning the software, it’s not going to make you a better photographer or teach you how to correct photos. That is not it’s purpose. I don’t enjoy Kelby’s humor, but the factual stuff is spot on and has been a great teaching tool. I also like that he offers PC and Mac shortcuts, as I am a PC user. Some of the links offered as examples are no longer available. Overall, though, this is a great teaching tool for a beginner like myself.

Great book for the absolute beginner to advanced user!
Great book for absolute beginner, followed along with instructions for 2 days from start to finish, and by the end of the book I felt very comfortable with all aspects of using Lightroom. Mr. Kelby’s writing is very easy to understand and follow, and he does get into advanced features, so it’s a great book for beginners to advanced users. This book helped me gain a intuitive understanding of the program, which is very important to me.

    Scott Kelby – my hero!
The book is by Scott Kelby and that says it all. I am self-taught and over the years have read many books and viewed many videos. I go to Scott Kelby all the time. I became a member on his blog. The information is priceless. I am a hobbyist — that all. Scott’s books are written so clearly; he never ‘assumes’ you know something and provides all paths you need to know. His videos are fun to watch. He makes you feel like “I can do that”…..

He gives different ways of doing the same task but usually with good reasons to do it one way
Scott Kelby’s Lightroom CC book for digital photographers is top notch. His writing style of keeping things simple continues in this book. It is well organized and indexed well. He gives different ways of doing the same task but usually with good reasons to do it one way. His humor is a good break from tedious reading (and his book is not tedious). His pictures are great in the book and compliment the text.I am trying to transition from Aperture to Lightroom and Mr Kelby has made the transition much easier. But where Mr Kelby really shines is helping to make your photos even better. His techniques for making a bad photo great are things you just cannot find experimenting with a photo program. He will make you a good photo editor.Yes, I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who feels overwhelmed with Lightroom. And he offers many other prizes by visiting his web site and using many of his videos.

  9. drewok

Well written, well explained and with a comprehensive content. With his style (including jokes, anecdotes and stories) Scott Kelby guides you through the whole programme.

I could write the same review for any of Scott Kelby’s books because he has exactly the same style throughout: clear, understandable, with lots of screen shots/pictures that actually show which button to press or what you should see on your screen. I first bought Victoria Bampton’s book (Lightroom: the missing FAQs) on the basis of the reviews. This was a mistake for – she presumes you know stuff right from the beginning. Yes, it tells you everything you could ever want to know which is great if you know what you’re doing, but I knew nothing, and the frustration of not finding the answers reduced me to tears. So I got this book instead. Hooray! If you are a beginner and you don’t really like computers or anything techie, this is the one for you. Some people may find Scott’s folksy style and jokes put their teeth on edge and that’s fair enough: even though I’m a massive fan and have now got about 6 of his books, I find it can get a bit wearing. But it’s a small price to pay IMO – and if really bothers you, just skip over his intros. Each topic is clearly labelled so you can find it easily. Then there’s a step by step break down of what you need to do, with a screenshot (or two) for every step. It’s like following a very simple recipe and he never makes assumptions about what you know (or in my case, don’t know). He might say something like, if you know how to do X, then you can skip this bit, but he never presumes you know. Another thing I like a lot is when he shows how he works on an image and why he does what he’s doing and compares the before and after. Finally, at the back of the book is a tear out grey card that you can use for white balancing which is really useful if you don’t already have one. (BTW Phil Steele’s website has a brilliant video on how to use a grey card and Lightroom to batch white-balance a series of pics. I use this method all the time because it’s so easy and effective.)

Exactly what i was hunting for. I have been using my LR CC for a while but I had questions that never seemed to get answered on any of the tutorials I watched on line. All my questions were answered in this book. I have found that any of the Scott Kelby books are excellent and worth an add to your library. I have even gone to a few of his seminars and I have never walked away disappointed in the information I leave with. This book is great for the novice AND for the experienced LR user.

ALMOST anything Adobe is way above average and I love Scotts incredibly precise lessons. Scott should spend some time with MS’ they have no idea.
