A quality OBDII reader and a LOT more WITH LIFE TIME UPDATES! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Ok, I might ruffle a few feathers here, but I’m an old guy who’s been fooling around with cars ,trucks for an awful long time, in fact I remember the first day. My dad was servicing his shiny new Packard, while I was watching him working, a question came to my mind, I think I was 3, maybe 4. The question?:” i know you put gas in the tank, but how does that end up making the car move?”I’ve never forgotten the look on his face when he turned and stared a me with his mouth hanging open:)He then smiled, started the car, then took me around back and had me put my hand by the exhaust, explaining:”The gas is burned inside the engine which makes the cool air become very hot, making it expand like a balloon. As the ‘balloons’ git bigger they push against pieces of steel making them move and turn gears which eventually force the wheels to turn. A car is therefore mostly a hot air pump. Do you feel the hot air coming out of that pipe?”It was that at that moment, he decided that one day, I’d study engineering, not to necessarily make me become one, but as he put it, “to learn how to think.”I tell you that story, not only because I’m old now, and that’s what old guys do *wink*, its because ‘getting a third opinion” when you taking your car/truck etc. into a mechanic to get something fixed, or even worse, ‘diagnosed’ has become an incredibly hazardous undertaking as society has changed, and evidence of the automotive industry’s moral’s seem increasingly hard to find. I’m not saying there aren’t exceptions, but they are few and far between. I could tell you stories, some coming from the top of the industry :(Consequently, purchasing a diagnosing code reader can be one of the most cost effective devices one can acquire.I hate to say it, but ESPECIALLY if you’re a woman. Knowledge is POWER, especially when confronting the vehicle repair industry. That is where this MOTOPOWER reader REALLY comes into it’s own. One use can more than pay for the entire unit in savings against repair scams, outright misinformation (“lying”) etc., especially when traveling, where they assume they’re not likely to ever see you or your vehicle again. This particular meter far exceeds a standard OBDII code reader, offering some very useful additional capabilities that might require you to spend a little time online learning, but rest assured, the return on that effort will most likely be one of the biggest “bang for buck” investments of your life, – both as to time invested, and money spent on this MOTOPOWER unit.Plus, it’s compatible with a whole range of vehicles, specifically the above-referenced OBDII, which basically means Vehicles for 2000 on up (but, it may also work with some vehicles going back to 1995 or so).The reader also has a free lifetime update availability by simply downloading the upgrades from the website. Frankly, the more you learn, the more you’re going to want to learn MORE LOL.It’s Highly visible screen, ability to download diagnostics to your phone, this little reader can do an awful lot to help you avoid, the dreaded ‘red light’ on the dask syndrome.I give it 5 stars across the board.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.!

A Must Have for Modern DIY Car Maintenance
This OBDII code scanner expands on the basics and is a great addition to any toolbox if you maintain your own modern vehicle. The build quality is excellent and feels tough and sturdy in the hand. The cable is a fairly large gauge adding to the robust feeling of the overall device. The buttons feel great to operate, not even a hint of feeling like they’ll stop working long before the device dies. The screen is bright and easy to read even in bright light, a must if you’re working outside. The included bag was a nice touch as I, personally, will need to refer to the manual every so often as I only maintain my vehicles and fix things as needed and am not working with it daily. Having the good sized bag to keep the everything in will ensure I never have to search online for the manual. The scanner has a USBC port for lifetime software updates (very important) and also has the ability to send diagnostic reports to your phone or print them by connecting to a PC. All updates and features are not locked behind a subscription in any way (a big plus for anything tech related these days). It can also give you some fun numbers like your 0-60 as well as turn off your oil maintenance reminder light (as some manufacturers like to make the process of resetting them a bit cryptic). Personally, I love the ability to test your battery as I live in a cold climate and every winter or two I have to figure out if my batteries are toast or if the cold is just enough to make cranking a struggle and a trickle charger will do the trick until it warms back up.Given all the features, I think for $99.99 (at the time of this writing) this scanner is a great value.

A must-have for vehicle owners who have late model cars. A superb value.
I’ll just start out by stating that anyone who owns a late model vehicle with a computer in it should have one of these. The On Board Diagnostics II (OBD II) scanning tool is basically money in one’s pocket after investing in one. Not only do they read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTGs) stored in the vehicle’s memory, but they can also erase those codes … to see if the initial event that caused one is still there and valid. It can check the battery and cranking power too.No need to go to the dealership or even the auto parts store to find out why one’s “Check Engine” lamp is illuminated … one can find out right in the driveway. If it’s a simple fix and one has tools, a bad O2 sensor, for instance, is usually a fifteen minute repair after visiting the parts store and buying one. It’s money in the pocket, believe me.The stylists had final word on the scanner, I’ll admit … it looks like one of the transformers. Don’t let that put you off; it’s fully functional and a superb value. The display is so bright and vivid that I simply could not photograph it and get screen captures without losing the rest of the image. You’ll just have to read the beautifully illustrated instruction manual, which I’ve scanned for you. If the pages are out of order, I do apologize. I cannot control the order in which photos appear once I’ve attached them herein. Do take the time and have a look at all it does. The enclosure is solidly built, the cable is stout, and the connector fits perfectly into my OBD II port. The scanner instantly springs to life and offers a menu, as shown in the manual. I rate this a super Amazon value worth a full five stars. Great gift for your gearhead buddies too.

I have tested a number of these code readers over the years and because I am not a mechanic, I have always valued the simpler designs that are compact and not overly featured. Monochromatic LED screens and the like have been fine, as long as they were easier to use, read and provided my the information that I was looking for. When we bought our newest vehicle in 2024, I realized that none of my previous tools could do ince very simple function, and that is to reset the oil change or “service due” notification, after the oil had been changed. This little gem covered that base.I will say this, the Motopower 4‑in‑1 code reader is a very capable diagnostic tool. It has feautre rich, it has THE best display in size and definition that I have ever used. The menu system is also among the most intuitive and easy to navigate that I have ever experienced. That being said, this little gem comes at a more premium price point than I used to date with ehexception of a tablet styles diagnostic OBD2 reader that was priced at $599.99. Strictly beneficial to a true technician. This Motopower is all it needs to be and more, without being THAT!While I am not a user that is likely to ever use all that product has to offer, the features that I do need are all found here in a single device. These needs include, reading and clearing codes, checking emissions compliance as well as live data output. The single feature that I appreciate most, is the aforementioned “oil reset” or “service due” notifications but it doesn’t end there. Battery and alternator testing can also be performed with this device as well as “efficency” tests. Normally this would require diagnostic tools beyond a simple OBD2 reader. With that being considered, along with build quality (superior) as well as the aforementioned navigation and spectacular, easy to read display, even in bright light conditions, I am easily convinced that the higher price point is very much justified. I firmly believe that it is money well spent for a guy like me and even nore so for someone that will take advantage of the numerous other diagnostic options that are available with this unit. This all goes beyond a simple “check engine” reader. To further add to the feeling that the higher price point is justified, this reader is one of the quickest that I have used when it comes to making the connection to the vehicle as well as how quickly it returns results. It is very impressive. To summarize, I no longer feel that the price point is all that steep anymore, this is a multi diagnostic tool that is feature rich, well made, easy to navigate, easy to read and features lifetime updates which will keep it relevant for years to come. I simply love using this particular unit and very unexpectedly, it has dethroned a unit that I have used with regularity on all our family vehicles for the last 3 years as my new favorite.I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone that is looking for one as a DIYer. Anyone who would need more, would know better what they need.

I love cars but really do not know anything about repairing them. I like having this scan tool because I can check for trouble codes before I go to the dealership and have some kind of knowledge of what is wrong before I get there. I have a dashcam that is hardwired to my truck and I sometimes worry it is running my battery down so I really like the battery voltage and condition function. I have a late model truck and I was able to connect this device without any problems. I like that the device can be updated via USB if newer cars require changes to the scanner. It is pretty easy for me to reset my oil life monitor on my truck without the device but it is great to know that the device also includes that function.I don’t have any codes right now so I didn’t test the print functionality but I really like that you can generate a QR code, scan it and then print the report from the scanner. Nice to be able to have a hard copy of the results. The device is great for casual use like mine and would also be good for people who have more car repair knowledge. There are cheaper alternatives and devices which just pair with your phone and use the phone screen but I like having a dedicated unit that doesn’t tie up my phone and I feel the extra cost is worth it for a standalone device. This is one little device that I think any car owner should have. If your check engine light comes on you can use the device to diagnose what is wrong and there are lots of resources out there to fix simpler problems once you know what the issue is. Even if you are like me and can’t fix it yourself you at least have some knowledge of the scale of the problem before you head to a mechanic and that makes the device worth it to me. Right now there is a pretty good coupon on the device and I feel like this is a great addition to your toolkit at this price.

Package arrived undamaged and contained all the items identified on the product page.I am pretty impressed with this multi-diagnostic tool, it replaces a few tools and it’s all in a compact package. My first ODB II reader was a monochrome screen that just displayed a code, nothing else, then you looked that code up online to try and figure out what was going on. This tool does all that, with a much better screen and user experience, but it also does so much more. One key, but relatively simple function, is the oil reset capability. There are secret button combinations on a lot of vehicles that can do the reset but this makes it really simple. But I also really like the live data and battery test options, I am able to start my vehicle and watch the number of volts it take to start up and then also make sure the alternater is working by how many volts there is when running …very nice.I still have to learn all the options for the live data, there are about 42 readings, I am not a pro at this but I really like I can figure out what all the tests it can perform and store that for future diagnostic requirements. There is even a test for O2 sensors. At first I thought the price tag as a bit high but given all the things this can do and all the other tools you’d need to buy to do them the price tag doesn’t seem so high anymore. Great tool if you do any type of work on vehicles. Even if you don’t work on vehicles this tool would give you some knowledge before going to the mechanic so you are aware of what is going on before they hit you with a quote to fix it.

I wouldn’t say this diagnostic scan tool is professional grade, but it is convenient and gives you access to a lot of information about your vehicle especially if you need to diagnose a problem. The screen is a nice size, and quite easy to read and the buttons are not stiff like some other models I have tried. What you get is the unit itself, which is comfortable to hold, a male USB-C to male USB-C cable to connect to a computer for updates, and a bag you can use for the scan tool when not in use. The bag works well and feels durable. The main cord that connects to the OBD port seems heavy duty, and not flimsy, and will last a while. The scanner works well for retrieving trouble codes and clearing them from memory if need be. It even has a function where you can type in the listed code and it will give you information on it to help you out. While tinkering with the menus I noticed you get a ton of data stream information that I will probably never need, but it is cool that you get access to it. The battery system works relatively well, giving you access to functions like real-time waveform graphs as well as a cranking test. It has a function for a Oil Reset, which is nice I suppose, but like someone else mentioned if you know what to do, it isn’t very difficult to do that manually without any tools or scanners. But, for those people, such as beginners, I can see it being a useful function. The print function works well too. It doesn’t do anything if you having retrieved any information from your vehicle, but once you do, you can select what you need printed and it spits out a QR code that you can scan with your phone and bring up the info.I think the only issue I had with this scanner was when I initially tried to update the software before I did anything. I downloaded the software, installed it, and then when prompted to plug in the scanner, it didn’t do anything. It just keep telling me to connect the device like it wasn’t detecting it. It wasn’t a big deal to me that I don’t have it 100% updated, it works fine for my needs as is.Overall this is a nice little unit. I have a small dongle type reader as well that works through my phone and I believe it does just as good of a job as this one for a fair bit cheaper in cost. I think the price point on this is a bit high, and should maybe come down a bit, but shouldn’t take away from the fact the unit works good, especially for beginners. I deducted a star for the software update failure that I couldn’t resolve.

I finally decided to upgrade to this MOTOPOWER 4-in-1 unit because I was tired of paying the dealership $150 just to reset my oil maintenance light. As a DIY-oriented parent trying to keep two older family SUVs on the road, this tool has been a total revelation. The 2.8-inch color screen is bright and much faster than my old scanner; it feels like it has a real processor inside rather than just a basic calculator chip. Being able to run a real-time battery and alternator test in the driveway saved me a huge headache last week when my wife’s car struggled to start on a chilly morning. One thing to watch out for is the “Cloud Print” and update feature. I found that if you want to update the software or print your reports, you specifically need a Windows computer, as it isn’t currently compatible with Mac. Use the live ripple analysis while the car is idling; it’s a fantastic way to spot a failing alternator diode before it actually strands you on the side of the highway.I’m giving this a solid 5 stars because it genuinely bridges the gap between a “toy” scanner and a professional shop tool. It’s plug-and-play with no annoying apps or WiFi subscriptions to worry about, and the extended cable is actually long enough that I can sit comfortably in the driver’s seat while running diagnostics.
