Great Diagnostic Tool for a Great Price
Just like the title says, this is a great diagnostic tool! And the price? Hard to beat for what you get with this unit, particularly because it’s currently on sale as I’m writing this review. I tested this tool on my 3 vehicles without any issues. Two of them had zero codes, but one needed a service reset which was a breeze with the S608. On my Range Rover, I was able to successfully diagnose a bad connection to the SRS (air bag) on the driver’s side. I’ve known about this issue, but the S608 was able to quickly confirm it. I reset the code with ease.I’ll add some pros and cons (yes, there are some) below, but here’s a couple highlights. What I like most is how easy it is to use. It boots right up to the main screen with nice large icons. The physical buttons on the right are a nice touch that add to the experience, instead being an unnecessary throwback to the old school diag tools. They have a good, solid feel to them and respond well. The menus are simple and straightforward, and that’s a good thing. I never felt like I had to search for any functions.The live data streams work great and the ability to graph them is a huge bonus. This tool has a lot of premium features more commonplace on expensive units, hence the great value.The lifetime software updates blew my mind. Almost no one does that. It’s a little ridiculous that you pay $1000+ for a high-functioning scanner, then get hit with subscription fees of hundreds of dollars a year after your initial subscription period ends. You literally never have to worry about that here and that’s amazing.Lastly the hardware/software combo is perfect as I never experienced any lag. I have a $1300 tool by a different manufacturer and this one blows that away in terms of speed. Granted the $1300 tool performs many more functions, but it’s a chore to use waiting for menus to come up. Not so, here. This will be my go-to for every day use while my other more expensive tool will be used mainly for complex diagnostics and for troubleshooting other systems not covered by this unit.The S608 is perfect for a DIY home mechanic looking for a versatile diagnostic tool that’s a great value. The S608 will handle what 95% of home mechanics need.PROSEasy to use, very good battery life, live customer support, lifetime updates, fast, good range of functions.CONSThe screen should come with a temp screen protector. My unit had some light scuffs on the screen when I unboxed it. A longer ODB cable would be nice. The cable is perfect if you’re sitting in the driver’s seat, but won’t reach anywhere outside of that. You could probably even purchase this separately, if needed.

Has exceeded my expectations for the price and features it offers. Right out of the box, it feels solid and well-built, with a rugged design that’s perfect for garage use. The screen is bright, clear. Setup is quick and straightforward. Best Scanner I’ve Owned to Date
This OBD2 Scanner is pretty incredible. Disclosure I am not a full time mechanic, I don’t work in the industry I am a DIY person who has a lot of experience and confidence fixing things. That being said. I don’t have much exposure to any other professional grade scanners.What I can tell you is that this thing rocks and is wicked fast compared to others I currently own. Out of the box it booted up really quickly. The unit has an onboard battery. Came 91% charged so I was able to tinker with it right out of the box. The included OBD2 Port wire is very substantial. I plugged it in and immediately had battery voltage displayed from the vehicle, within seconds had the Vin, MIL status, and Readiness information.Its really easy to use. The touch screen is nice and responsive it connects quickly and easily I added a video of my panning through a couple menus and options to show the quick response. I’m just scratching the surface in this review of its capacity. But big things for me are how quickly and accurately I can get to the data. I have other units that are boggy and slow which leaves me frustrated.I hope to get into a few more of the complex features I want to use the Throttle body position reset and a few others but haven’t had the need quite yet. I keep a basic scanner in each of my vehicles for on the road quick diagnostics. one of them is likely getting swapped out for this unit.Only possible con so far is that the USB-C port is deep in the side of the unit.. at first I thought this was a real pain.. but then I figured it was probably a good idea to protect the port and protect the connection and decided it wasn’t worth negating a star

Fantastic, not just for the price.
Incredible bang for buck.Initial Startup was super fast. It was maybe 5 seconds on the kingbolen splash screen asked language and boom ready to go.Menu is clear and easy to navigate.Upon initial hookup it detected the vehicle and was connected and ready in ten seconds.Build quality is great. Screen size is perfect cable is snug and secure in the obd2 port.Connected to my 2015 cherokee and 2015 wrangler and my 2016 challenger hellcat in seconds zero issue with either vehicle.Unfortunately this model does not perform cam/crank relearn. I went through all the updates to verify and it isnt part of the functionality. I will have to step up to a bigger model that supports more resets. Sad to return it because it is such a fast unit 😪

Good for the money but not a lot of Bidirectional data
Good scanner and clean UI. Unfortunately does have very little bi-directional functions, and I understand for the price but that’s why I bought this one over some larger brand names. So i will be swapping this out for that I feel more comfortable with.

The KINGBOLEN S608 is easy to use and does more than a basic code reader. It reads and clears codes, shows live data, and offers plenty of features for everyday diagnostics. The touchscreen is clear and responsive, and free updates are a nice bonus. Overall, it works well and feels worth the money.

Took it out of the box and did full system update. Hooked it up to my GM product and found 4 DTC’s . 2 were old history and 2 were not. It will send you to the internet and you can investigate possibles for your DTC issues and help get repair ideas. This tool will take time to learn al it’s functions but the more you play the more you learn. I did by this unit to reset the Brake monitors on my truck. I like it allot and I think you will too.

It’s good for basic maintenance. It’s by no means going to replace your more expensive quality scanner. It can scan some basic modules and help you preform general maintenance. The free upgrades for life is a huge plus, and it’s easy to operate. I personally bought this for when I have to go do jobs away from the shop. The battery won’t charge to 100 and sticks at 90. I’ll have to see how long this will last and update if it dies. Overall I’m really not impressed, but I don’t hate it either

I’ve tested dozens of OBD tools in my years of vehicle ownership, and this Kingbolen S608 is one of the most comprehensive consumer grade products out there for the price. I am used to using dealer-level software which requires a laptop, special OBD cables, and usually a wall plug nearby. This tool makes maintenance and diagnostic work a lot more user friendly and accessible for the masses.On my older BMWs, I am able to scan individual modules (DME, TCM, ABS, IHKA, ABS, LCM, SRS, etc.) and actually enter into each module individually to read detailed trouble codes with description. For example, on early model X3’s you can get a bulb-out error without the vehicle telling you which actual bulb is out… and its not always obvious by looking at the car, especially if you’ve installed aftermarket LEDs. The S608 tool is able to pinpoint which specific bulb was causing the error.There are so many examples of what this tool can do, but what’s impressive is you can activate / deactivate so many functions from each module in your vehicle. I can lower the windows, I can turn the hazards on, I can cycle my ABS pump, I can turn ignition coils on or off, I can couple the A/C clutch with the engine off, and dozens more example which make diagnostics so much easier. It provides live data while the vehicle is running as well, and has LIFETIME free upgrades, which just pays for itself there.I was previously using a Kingbolen Elite Diag, which is a bluetooth version of this same scanner with similar (if not identical) functions, and I thought that was an absolute winner for its portability, but it relied on the software being installed on my phone. This S608 is an impressive standalone tool that doesn’t require any fuss, just plug it in.On many vehicles, particularly newer ones, can skip the dealership visit to reset oil change intervals, code injectors, bleed your ABS pump, or register your battery (I say newer vehicles, because older ones don’t need some of this stuff, like registering a battery). I think this tool will pay for itself after 1-2 uses, considering its often $200 just for a dealership to run a simple OBD diagnostic.
