Great for Precision and Architecture Photography
I really am enjoying using the tripod head for architectural photography. Using it makes aligning my verticals and horizontals significantly accurate and I spend less time in Photoshop fixing my perspectives. It also makes on-axis shots easier. The levels on my Canon make this head easy to use. The gears are in a natural and intuitive placement. After a while of use, my hands know where to find the knobs. The fast release dials make it easy to get a rough adjustment then you use the fine tuning knobs get a precision adjustment. It is at least two pounds lighter than my Manfrotto Pan-Tilt head. I didn’t think I cared too much about weight until things got a lot lighter. The build quality seems solid and durable, but light.I have it pared with a K&F carbon fiber tripod and the combo is light, sturdy, and easy to carry. I take multiple exposures and merge them together and I’ve notices less movement between shots when the images are aligned in Photoshop, even when I need to touch my camera to make adjustments. The only thing I didn’t like is the Arca-Swiss mount is rather useless. I purchased a 3 Legged Thing mount to replace the one that comes with the unit. It does not have enough grip to secure a heavier camera. In horizontal mode the camera drifts down quite easily making it useless and possibly dangerous to use. I highly recommend getting a better tripod plate. This tripod is for precision movements and locking things down. It is not well suited for video or where you don’t need precision or panning. For that you would want a pan-tilt tripod head. It is suited for architecture and macro photography where you want more accurate adjustments. This head is probably the best geared head under $500 that I was able to find.

Excellent Precision Control — A Major Upgrade Over a Traditional Ball Head
I’ve used a lot of tripod heads over the years, and this one stands out as a thoughtfully engineered alternative to the traditional ball head design. After using it for several shoots, I can confidently say it offers a noticeably better experience when it comes to precision framing and ease of adjustment.Build QualityRight out of the box, the first thing that stood out was the construction. The materials feel solid and well-machined, and nothing about the product feels flimsy or cheaply made. The finish is clean, the knobs turn smoothly, and the tolerances feel tight and well-designed. It has the reassuring feel of a professional accessory that should hold up well over time.SetupSetup was incredibly fast. I had it mounted to my tripod and ready to use in about 30 seconds without needing to reference instructions. Everything about the design feels intuitive, which I really appreciate when setting up gear quickly in the field.Control & AdjustabilityThis is where the product really shines. The three-axis adjustment system is a huge improvement over a typical ball head. With a ball head, even a small adjustment often causes the camera to drift or shift in multiple directions at once. It can become a frustrating cycle of adjusting, tightening, and readjusting just to dial in the composition. With this design, each axis can be adjusted independently, which makes framing shots dramatically easier and more precise. Small changes in angle or leveling are predictable and controlled instead of chaotic. Once you get your framing where you want it, everything locks down securely and stays exactly in place.Real-World UseIn practice, this makes shooting much smoother. Fine adjustments to composition are easy, and I spend far less time fighting with the tripod head. Whether you’re shooting photos, video, product shots, or anything where precision matters, the improvement over a traditional ball joint is immediately noticeable.Final VerdictThis is one of those products where the design solves a problem many photographers just accept as normal. The combination of solid construction, intuitive setup, and precise three-axis control makes it a great upgrade from standard tripod heads. If you’re tired of the constant micro-adjustments and drift that come with ball heads, this is absolutely worth considering. It’s a simple idea executed very well.Highly recommended.

    Excellent quality geared head
Build quality is great, all metal, zero cheap plastic, everything feels good to touch and use. Heavy but compact. Precise adjustments to the pan/tilt/yaw are very easy to make and once you set it where you want it it’s not moving, that’s its purpose. Will be using it mainly with my 100-400mm M.Zuiko lens in situations where I really need precision (moonrises/eclipses, stars, and so forth).Makes a perfect pair with my K&F CF tripod. As a micro 4/3 user I’m not using this with anything extremely heavy, but it feels like it’d handle larger cameras and lenses no problem.

    Great at 1st, but doesn’t last….
I have owned this mount for about 2 years. I do not use it heavily, but today I noticed it was unstable and tonight the bottom gear feels like it broke and now it flops. For the cost I would expect a bit longer life out of it …If you are using a DSLR with a zoom lens, keep looking for other options.

  5. Flamingtaco

    Compact, accurate, well thought out.
Most outstanding 3-axis geared head. Fully aluminum, including the knobs. There is zero play, you cannot budge your camera’s position with force. Motion is dampened, so you won’t fly past the target. Even when disengaging a gear for a huge axis swing, the camera will not move without applying pressure. Very fine control and huge axis articulation. The weight capacity is awesome, it permits me to mount my camera with a heavy teleconverter to a rod rig to support the lens, with a huge ARRI dovetail. No worries about excess wear on the gears. To obtain more than 5° of positive tilt, you will need to mount it to a ball head if using a video head or an extra wide camera head on your tripod. Of course, you can tilt the head, but for astrophotography you’ll want to set the head to level so you can use the elevation markers to hone in on targets.

    Solution of your frame adjustment
I’ve been using this on my tripod for a few days and the fine adjustment knobs make framing shots much easier. It feels sturdy, smooth to adjust, and much more precise than the standard tripod head I was using before.

Handig in gebruik, stabiel uitermate geschikt voor macro-, stilleven-, landschap- en panoramafotografie

  8. Mrchams

The horizontal axis would stop turning. My guess the internal gears are plastic and were faulty

  9. juan portones

Perfecta o casi.

  10. Robert B.

Great for Astro and for Panoramic photography. Well built, robust unit that is not to heavy. Very easy to adjust I have used it with both my DLSR and with my Dwarf 3 scope. It is so easy to make fine adjustments and it fits neatly onto either of my K&F tripods. A great buy, well worth it.

Great service from Double O1. Omar provided amazing support when I needed to claim the warranty after having an issue with the item a few months after purchase. Item was replaced the same day. Highly recommended.Regarding the K&F geared head, its an amazing tool and great value for money. If you do any photography that requires precise adjustments this is a must replacement for a standard ballhead.
