I purchased this OBD2/USB adapter to make some modifications to my F250 Super Duty with Forscan. It has been fully compatible with my truck and my Dell laptop and not only reads codes, but easily allows changes to be made via Forscan. Compared to the other similar devices it’s a great value, and it appears to be extremely rugged construction. The first try plugging it into the truck and my laptop, it connected, read all the da ta and instantly allowed me to make th e changes I wanted to make. It has the MS/HS switch which I need for my truck and that switch seems as sturdy as the rest of the adapter cable. It has worked flawlessly each time I’ve connected and made changes.

Worked for all my needs
Worked flawlessly and quickly using FORSCAN on a Windows 11 PC and connecting to my 2012 Ford Focus (Titanium, Hatchback, 2.0L I4) with both HS and MS CAN. I used this to switch my lowbeam type in the BCM to not give the dipped lowbeam fault after putting led lowbeams in. It was tricky figuring out how to use the software but this device gave me no problems on it’d end. Compared to other ELM327 OBD adapters out there, this was definitely worth the ~$20 price point I paid for it.

This cable.Being a wholesale auto dealer, many times we get vehicles with 1 well worn key. With no keyless entry remote – paying some company or guy/girl $250 for a $3 Amazon key to be programmed to the car is literally stupid – especially when YOU can also buy the same exact $3 Amaxon key and program it yourself – total cost?, $3. Thats right, 3 bucks. Key and remote fob? $12 total – programmed yourself.,,,(search ForScan) i saved $800 with my first use of this cable with ForScan – you can too!** note that with this cable and ForScan ive been able to program everything (on Ford Products) from an annoying seatbelt chime permanently off on a 2011 town car to adding OEM Factory trailer brake controllers with computer assisted hands free trailer backup on very late model (2017 and up) F150/250/350s – ive also edited config “AS BUILT” PCM options on 2 dozen Ford GM Chrysler vehicles – ive been programming out GM Active Fuel Management and engine start stop to default to OFF when on. I also have a 09 town car with a 660hp 32v 4.6 and ProCharger that i can use this to optimize fuel maps and even add factory remote start and much much more! This pays for itself first use – YMMV and PLEASE BACKUP YOUR STOCK OEM AS BUILT CONFIGURATION BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!! Computers do crash- or die for no apparent reason, should it do so mid programming, if you dont have a saved as built pcm file, you wont be happy for a looong time. And it will cost you thousands for a new PCM programmed to your vehicle – thats worst case scenario and RARELY happens -Note: ForScan does display on screen “THIS CABLE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH FORSCAN” of course it isnt, (works fine) they sell their own branded cables, which are exacrly these cables. Save money – buy this one

Really simple and contains an ELM327
I wanted this to hack on for an electronics project and I didn’t care about the USB functionality at all. I just wanted a simple way to directly interface with the ELM327. I was afraid that the unit would be like other “ELM327” clones that place the microcontroller under blob of black epoxy, making it hard to interface with.Fortunately, this unit comes with a Microchip PIC18F25K80 (which is what the real ELM327 should be using). Whether it’s flashed with the real firmware is unknown, but it behave identically enough for all my use cases.In the photo, the largest chip in the center is the PIC18F25K80. The SOIC-8 chip above it is a CH340, which a USB-to-serial translator. The SOIC-8 in the top-right is a SIT1040, which is a CAN transceiver. I believe the random assortment of FETs and resistors in the bottom right are for the ISO-L, ISO-K, and J1850 buses.Of note, there are no voltage regulators in the unit as it takes 5V directly from USB. For my use cases, I’ll essentially be de-soldering the CH340 and connecting a custom-built board into the 5V, GND, TX, and RX lines.EDIT: The voltage reading is inaccurate by about 0.2V. The circuit here differs from the recommended circuit in the ELM327 datasheet in that there is a Schottky diode between the Vbat and the ELM326’s ADC. The diode has a voltage drop between 0.15V to 0.25V. I guess the diode provides extra protection, but it affects voltage reading accuracy. If you feel inclined, you can desolder the diode and put a bridge wire in its place.
