12 reviews for Ediag Elite KINGBOLEN Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner, Lifetime NO Cost Update Bidirectional Scan Tool for iOS & Android, Wireless Full System Car Diagnostic Scanner, 15+ Reset Service, CANFD, FCA AutoAuth eBaydiy Tools

  1. Mark Thompson

Nice scan tool for the price.
Before I start, I would like to say that there is no aftermarket scan tool (including this one) that will give you everything. But if I were able to buy the KINGBOLEN Ediag Elite OBD2 scanner diagnostic scan tool back in 96, when I paid $1600 for an OTC Monitor 4000E scan tool that only covered domestic PCM, for only $100, I would have been ecstatic. The software is easy to use; you need to play around with it to find all the features it offers. I uploaded several screenshots from the Ediag Elite being used to help you get familiar with the software. For example, all factory scan, current modules, what you can look at after selecting PCM, selecting PIDS, PCM data after hitting OK, graph, MIN/MAX, global OBD II scan, global DTCs, DTC’s with freeze data, saving your report options, and maintenance software.Like I said, some things this scan tool will not do; there are no special functions. So if you’re a Ford tech and you want to do a KAM reset, look at power balance, or do a crank relearn, well, that was part of the special functions. Same with immobilizer. If you don’t see it under the actuation test or Maintenance software, you don’t get it. The better options are Ediag Plus by KINGBOLEN, or ThinkDiag2 by Thinkcar. The two are the same. But you pay more and have to pay a yearly subscription, but at least you get what’s missing. There are a few things I would like to see updated with the software. When you select the PIDs you want to view & hit OK, if you want to go back and add more PIDs, the PIDs that were previously selected will be unchecked. You will need to add your new PIDs and re-select your old PIDS. Very irritating. Also, the scan tool will not graph off/on, open/close loop, yes/no, etc, PIDs. But if you record the data and play it back, then hit combine, those PIDs can be displayed as a graph. If you want to switch between metric and imperial, you have to back out of the vehicle, go to settings, change it, and then start over. Same with reviewing your recordings, back out to review, and start over again. It does work better on the newer vehicles; I had a hard time connecting to the Enhance side on a 97 Caravan, but no problem communicating with the Global side. On a 2000 Maxima, I had no problem connecting to the Global and Enhance side of the PCM, but not the other modules. All you can do is send a diagnostic report and hope they fix it.Using a scan tool with AutoAuth, normally, you set up an AutoAuth account and pay $50 a year to scan FCA vehicles (Fiat Chrysler Automotive), but apparently, this is not the case with this scan tool. You have to purchase FCA/AutoAuth in the software, which is $128 and year (not paying). I added this scan tool to our AutoAuth account, and I got a not recognized from AutoAuth when I tried to look at a late model FCA. But as long as you have an active subscription, you can still pull DTCs and look at enhanced data on all modules; you just can’t clear the DTCs or use the actuator test.I think this is a great tool for a professional who needs to do a quick scan of a system and, hopefully, a quick diagnosis. If you need more, there are better scan tools out there. But besides all that, I still give it a 5-star because of what it can do for the cost and for the fact that I use it pretty much every day at work.

    Better than think diagnostics
Better than thank diagnostics and does not need updates every year it goes online with each vehicle

  3. Larry Benson

It operates by bluetooth. No wired needed.
I haven’t tried it yet, but the reviews are very positive.Update: I have a 2021 Mazda CX-5, which didn’t appear in the selected autos. I put in the Vin # and it worked. Note, the CX 5 has a clip that holds the unit in place. Be careful when removing It or you will snap the clip piece holding it in. Ha, which I did. Still works though. It can be replaced. It scanned a bunch of stuff that I have no clue what it means. It seems everything is working fine.As I continue to use this and understand more of the features ( via YouTube tutoring ), I’ll submit my findings.Yes, I bought more than I needed, but the price was right and the reviews were good and there is a lot of help on the internet if I need it.More is invested in the unit since you are using your phone to access the information. I have an iPhone 16

    Quality pocket scanner
Very nice pocket scanner, mobile app is nice and the scanner itself feels well built and high quality, even came with a carry case. Easy to use and packed full of functions. Definitely worth the money

  5. Trystan

A must have tool, for a novice and a pro.
A great compact diagnostic tool, will do things the big expensive scanners can as well, like resetting maintenance intervals, performing certain service functions (like retracting electronic parking brakes), and even data logging, letting you record data, and play it back locally on your device, without being connected to the scanner itself. For example, my personal vehicle hasn’t been making the boost it used to. With this device, I could see that the demanded boost pressure from the vehicle matches the actual boost pressure, and although the PIDD was not selected in this log, I can see that the engine computer is pulling timing, due to the knock sensors detecting knock. In this case it was a fuel quality issue. Very handy since your phone is always on you, when the first sign of trouble pops up, you can view DTC’s and PIDD’s all you want. The big diagnostic tools have their place, but for the money, this is a great tool to always have in your glove box, ready at a moment’s notice. 100 percent worth it. And not to mention, free updates!

Don’t work well with Ford hybrid
This works well on a multitude of car’s but most reset functions on my F150 are not supported could have bought a cheaper one to work the same as on my Ford. Keeping it hoping they will software upgrade it

    Impressive Bluetooth Dongle Scanner
Impressive OBDII Dongle scanner. It doesn’t take a lot of effort. Scan the Q-code, download the app and the corresponding vehicle model, create account, register the device, plug in the device into your car OBD2 port and it will detect the dongle immediately. Once connected, it will direct you on how to turn the key or ignition to what setting. Then voilà, it retrieved details about the car such as the make, model and year, including the VIN#.Some of the reviewers said it’s slow but I disagree. I’ve used a lot of OBDII scanners in the past, but this wireless Bluetooth dongle scanner is way faster than bulkier wired Launch Creader Elite. So many cool features to list, for example, you can run a health test that will show you the overall state of health of the car while pinpointing each specific issue. There is an option to save the findings as a report or PDF file. It can access the immobilizer to program keys for some vehicles. It can do many other diagnostic things that requires a much more expensive scanner to do.Overall, if you’re looking for an all in one wireless OBD2 dongle scanner with bi-directional control & support features that delivers top tier functionality, the KINGBOLEN Ediag Elite is a MUST HAVE!

I’ve tried maybe a dozen OBD2 pocket scanners and the Ediag Elite by KINGBOLEN one is my favourite by far. Your mileage may vary based on your specific model, but on my two older BMWs (2001 E46 and 2006 E83) this scanner is able to access nearly every module on the vehicle, read/clear codes, activate certain functions, and provide live data as well. For example, I was able to simulate a bad ignition coil by disabling the firing on a specific cylinder. I was able to turn my electric cooling fan on and off. All of the lights on the exterior of the car could be toggled on and off individually, and much more depending on what module I was in. It make it really handy to be able to isolate a specific issue by toggling things on and off, and it lets you verify function without having to guess or pull out the multimeter. The Android app has good ratings in the Play Store, and I was able to quickly scan the QR code on the instruction manual in order to activate my specific scanner. What’s interesting is that when I went to go and create an account with this app, it said my email address was already in use, so I suspect that KINGBOLEN is a branch of a bigger parent company, since I’ve never used this app or scanner before. The other scanner I have is a MUCAR, so their frameworks might be connected somehow.Anyways, I was able to generate a health report of my vehicle – It scans each module individually and provides a written language description of each fault, prioritizing each fault in order of importance / significance. It is also able to generate a PDF, complete with your VIN, mileage, model, and module serial numbers, which is super handy. This is now the scanner I will keep in my old BMWs when travelling. Just a lot of functionality built in that takes the stress and wonder out of any issue I may encounter in the future. Note: You do have to initially download the diagnostic packages for each of the car models you own or plan to scan. This can take up a significant amount of storage on your phone. The BMW one was well over 1GB on its own, whereas others like Audi, Mazda, VW are generally under 100mb.

Works Flawlessly. The auto VIN reader is a bonus

I’m somewhat torn on this scanner as it’s got a weird blend of good and bad. Obviously one of them is price.Physical size is another. This thing is BIG. Compared to an old bluetooth scanner I have this is several times larger. It does come iwht a nice little case, at least, so you can shove it in your glovebox and not worry about it getting damaged or dirty.Compared to a cheaper module this does have some reset functions. They are, however, separate downloads in an already clunky app. It makes initial setup kind of awkward. Also, if you’ve using it on an older vehicle the app has to test (and then time out on) each ODB protocol before moving to the next, so simply connecting can take a while.Once in you get your usual assortment of code and sensor readings, you can capture live data and so on. Unfortunately, the saved reports can only be viewed in the app, I cannot see a way to change scale on the graphs and there doesn’t seem to be the ability to export that report data…which may not be for everyone but is something I personally get a lot of use from.It has some quirks shared by other cheaper ODB scanners, too. When in use it constantly flashes the VSC and ABS lights, so something is wonky with the protocol. That goes away on restarting the car, at least.Unfortunately, if you do anything to the codes it’ll leave a permanent VSC light on certain models. And while there are lots of reset functions in the app, zero point calibration is not one of them so I’m stuck using the paperclip trick if I want to get rid of that light after using this reader.

This KINGBOLEN Ediag Elite Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner is a pocket-sized car doctor that connects to iOS and Android devices for full system diagnostics. This is *NOT* the same as a 30 buck ELM32 code scanner. It’s surprisingly compact for the features, because it’s just a communications Bluetooth dongle and the functionality uses your phone. You get lifetime free updates, no subscriptions, and support for 10,000+ models across 150+ global brands. The FCA AutoAuth feature works on 2017+ FCA Chrysler family vehicles if you have an account. This is the only additional thing you have to pay for, and it’s because Stellantis vehicles require a security gateway to access any diagnostics. This includes Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat.Other cars don’t require a separate license to do diagnostics and access modules.Full system scans cover ECM, ABS, SRS, TPMS, BMS, SAS, A/C, and more, letting you read and clear fault codes, pull real-time data, and perform freeze-frame and control module checks. The bi-directional active test is very handy. You can test stuff like radiator fans, throttle modulation, door actuators, and lights and tons more. Module access is something cheap scanners simply don’t do.It also supports CAN-FD for high-speed diagnostics on new GM vehicles, with no separate CAN adapter required.Lots of cool real-time graphs, readouts, and charts. You can record and playback sessions later too. With your phone or tablet, this becomes a $1000 scanner using your own screen and an app instead of a console. This is really convenient for DIYers or pros who want deep insights without spending thousands.APP setup is simple: open the app, pair, and you’re diagnosing in a few minutes.I really could write a book about all the things you can do with this. If you are a DIY mechanic working on newer cars, it’s a necessity to dive into the system diagnostics in modules to diagnose and fix things now. You’ll love this at a fraction of the price of a full scanner kit.
