Powerful and Versatile Half Inch Drill
I already have a couple of 1/2 inch cordless drills, but when I saw this Dong Cheng tool, I decided to order it. The fact that it came with a battery, a charger, and some useful accessories made it even better. I have a ¼ inch cordless impact from Dong Cheng so I am familiar with their platform.I really like this drill. It not particularly lightweight but not too bad considering the power that it has. The Amazon listing and packaging state that this has a brushless motor. I didn’t see any sparks through the cooling vents when it was running, so this seems to check out. The drill has three operating modes: regular drill, hammer drill, and driver. In driver mode, it has 24 clutch settings. And there is a two-speed transmission, 0 to 500 rpm and 0 to 2000 rpm.The drill has a side handle that can be easily attached and has a pretty long arm. This will come in handy for me when I am drilling larger holes in metal or using a holesaw. The handle can be attached to either side of the drill, accommodating both right- and left-handed people.The drill came with an assortment of drill bits as follows: conventional twist drills (size ¼, 5/16, 3/8 inch), masonry drills (size ¼, 5/16, 3/8 inch), and brad point wood drills (size ¼ (x2), 5/16, 3/8 inch). Also included are hex bits (five size 2.5mm to 6mm and five 3/32 inch to ¼ inch), Phillips bits (P1, P2, P3), and Torx bits (six size T10 to T30),Also included with this drill are one 4.0 Ah battery and a charger. And a soft side, canvas carry bag. I used this drill on a project recently that involved drilling holes and driving screws and it worked fine.Frequently, tools like these are compatible with battery systems from the major vendors. However, I have batteries from Makita, Milwaukee, and Bauer; none of these fit this Dong Cheng tool. Possibly, a DeWalt battery would fit, but I do not have any of these to try out. However, based on my research and looking at pictures of the batteries, I do not believe that DeWalt batteries would work either. Since I already have one Dong Cheng 20v cordless tool, I should be okay for batteries.One Issue I have for this tool is about the warranty, or more specifically, the lack of any information about the warranty, if there even is one. I checked the Amazon listing for this tool, the Dong Cheng Amazon page, and the Dong Cheng website. None of these sources had any information at all about a warranty. For about $100, this drill is not incredibly expensive, but it would be nice for it to be covered by some kind of warranty.I do like this drill and I think it may find a home, along with the Dong Cheng impact wrench, in either my Class C motorhome or my race car trailer. However, minus one star for battery incompatibility and lack of warranty.
