Good DIY tool with simple blade insertion and removal
This appears to be a quality product like the other DeWalt cordless tools I have. It works fine and works as expected.The one tricky thing was figuring out how to get the blade into and out of the slot, but the manual (provided) shows a picture about how to do that, and once you figure it out, it’s a snap. (The little yellow square on the side with the “lock” icon is really a hinged lever that pulls the slot open to receive the blade; you pull that square up and it pulls the little “peg” away so you can put the blade in; the peg snaps into the little hole on the blade to keep it seated while the blade is in use; when you want to remove the blade, you pull the yellow square lever up and then remove the blade.)One thing to note which should be **OBVIOUS** but just in case: REMOVE THE BATTERY PACK BEFORE INSERTING OR REMOVING THE BLADE. They really should add this warning not just to the general instructions but also to the specific instructions about inserting and removing the blades.The tool does not come with any blades, but I have some for my corded Makita, and of course they’re interchangeable. I put on the metal-cutting blade and used the tool to cut the nails and screws in some old lumber that I had around that needed to be “cleaned” before it could be used. Most of the older nails and screws came out okay, but some of them did not give up the nails and screws so easily, so I just cut them off. As a precaution, I always spray the area with a hidden screw or nail with fluorescent orange paint so that I don’t later decide to cut the wood and ruin a saw blade!The tool also does not come with a bag or safety glasses or gloves, but I have them from other cordless tools I’ve purchased. I have a DeWalt mini-chainsaw, a DeWalt pruner, and now this Dewalt reciprocating saw in the same 14″ long bag from DeWalt. I keep the batteries and the charger in a separate, smaller bag I have so that I don’t have to worry about trying to stuff everything into one huge bag.So far the saw cuts well. It has enough speed to be useful, and while it is not quite as powerful as my corded Makita, it is pretty darn close to the same power and durability of the cutting action so that I don’t get tired. It’s about 2/3 the size of the Makita, and lighter, which means it’s easier to use. The grip is fine. I always wear gloves when using tools, and the tool itself is neither slick nor sticky. (Some of my tools, including the Makita, seem to attract dust and dirt that I have to clean them off with a rag wetted with window cleaner, but this tool wipes off with a paper towel if there’s dirt on it.) The length is fine for most DIY use. I wouldn’t use it every day if I was doing heavy-duty work because I’d want something with no power, but for cutting sheet metal or nails and the like, it’s just fine, and it’s easy to use out in the yard when I want to cut roots without using my expensive-and-difficult-and time-consuming-to-sharpen chain saw.

I mean what is there to say. It’s dewalt. Of course it’s good! I love the compact size. Works great for tight areas has all the power you need. Vibration is actually not bad. Cutting speed is up there. Battery life seems to be pretty good!

Happy with the 20v tool
I ordered this saw in order to dismantle a fairly large hot tub that died and was too large to take out of the room that was built around it over 20 years ago. I thought about hiring a company to do it for me due to my age, but they would have charged over $400 and are historically unreliable. So for a little over a $100 I was able to do the job myself and now how a great tool to boot. I removed the heavy, mostly solid pump and heating unit before beginning, so most of the metal was removed to make the job easier. I was a bit concerned about the 5ah I already owned whether it would last long enough to get the job done and, while it took some time to get the job done, the battery was not an issue. The saw performed great and I used a wood saw blade which cut through the fiberglass, wood, foam, and plastic parts with little or no effort. The tool and the battery lasted better than my body did while taking awkward positions and positioning the saw to cut through the curved molded tub. I was able to cut the tub into 4 pieces in order to be able to handle and move it easier.

My husband has become a big DeWalt fan over the last few years, and he finally decided to get this saw. Now he’s wondering why he waited so long! It’s incredibly sturdy, powerful, and very easy to use. He used to cut palm branches in our backyard with a hand saw, which often left him with cuts and scratches on his arms. Thankfully, that’s now a thing of the past. That was the main reason we bought it, but he’s already discovered several other uses for it as well. We’re very happy with this purchase!

This is described as 20v for the US market but works fine with standard 18v Dewalt XR batteries. These are not precision cutters, but great for chopping up stuff where millimetre accuracy is not needed. As per the description, the blade fits in two different ways which can be handy where access is difficult. It has a bright LED which also helps a lot.As with all saws of this type, the blade can catch and make the saw jump if you are not careful, so protective gloves and eye protectors are a good idea – the queues at A&E are so long these days, so why take a chance on injuring yourself?
