Handy tool for diy projects
So far so good;It took some practice to avoid cocking the inserts, but after a few ruined parts I think I’ve got a good grasp on how to do things properly. The inserts hold very well in PLA+ plastic, though over-tightening will strip them out. Super glue has some success in mending these issues if someone is a little careless…Overall, this has been surprisingly useful. We’ve managed to make some custom control panels with this kit; using mechanical fasteners gives a much more professional finished look when compared to printed snaps, on top of the added staying power.Highly recommend for hobbyists / 3d printing enthusiasts. It’s inexpensive enough to grab as a beginner tool at least; I’ll probably be using this until it burns out. Setup is easy, and it comes with a pretty decent diversity of pieces. Temperature control is convenient and appears to be accurate.

Good for setting inserts in plastic. Not usable as soldering iron.
This is a fine heat setting tool, but that is it’s only use. Despite the listing picture showing a soldering iron tip on this unit, this kit does not include a solder tip, I cannot find one on Amazon and neither can Amazon Rufus. The misleading description even says “soldering iron”, but you cannot use it to solder. Also on the negative side: This iron only displays temperature in degrees centigrade. The insert setting tips and the tip holder apparently are specific to this manufacturer. I have a kit from another maker without a temperature readout, unfortunately, none of the tips are interchangable. The plastic case survived shipping and is good to keep the kit together. However the iron is a tight fit you have to work in diagonally and stuff in the cord. It will not fit unless you remove the tip adapter and tip.On the positive side: I wanted this unit for setting inserts in plastic because of the digital temperature readout. Knowing your temperature settings for each type of plastic and insert size is a clear advantage. The temperature readout makes that possible. The right temperature will allow the insert to push into the plastic and allow the plastic to fully grip the knurled shape of the insert. Too hot and you get more fumes and/or smoke, the insert might melt into the plastic too far and the insert takes longer to become stable. I am still learning what works best. The temperature regulation seems good, but I do not have a way to actually measure that. With 90 watts of power, it heats up quickly. When setting inserts, a good trick for getting them straight is to set the insert a little bit high, remove the iron and quickly and push the inset flush with a flat object larger than the insert, such as a piece of wood. The flat end of the inset will be set straight and flush by the flat object.

Iron has heat adjustment. Tips use threaded adapter. Digital display. Easy to use and works great.
This heat set insert tool kit works great for installing brass thread inserts for plastic. The kit comes with the soldering iron, a metal stand for the iron, a threaded adapter for the heat insert tips, and 7 tips with sizes M2 through M8. And there’s a storage case for the tips and also a larger case that holds the iron and everything. The iron is quite nice with digital display and adjustable heat. When I first turned it on, it went to 330 degrees but you can increase the temperature all the way to 500. For using a small heat insert the 330 degree setting worked great. There are three buttons – a plus and minus for the temperature adjustment and then a star button that you long press to turn on or off the iron. When you receive the iron, there’s no tips installed so you need to install the threaded adapter prior to use.Using the heat set kit it worked really well. I’ve never used heat inserts before and was surprised just how simple and easy they are to use. I used a #6-32 insert, which this kit only has metric size tips, but the M3 size worked great. I pre-drilled a hole just slightly smaller than the insert and placed the insert on the plastic. Then took the hot iron and allowed the insert to melt into the plastic with almost no pressure as it easily pushed into the plastic. And the results are great.

Tool works well though pictures in decription are misleading
The tool iron is easy to work with – the digital read out is clear and the +/- adjustments allow the desired temperature to be dialed in. The adapter head can be installed with the tool off and cool. The tips can quickly be screwed on/off when the tool is cool as well. No soldering tip is included though it is pictured with one.Sort of confusing is that there are multiple photos of a jig/press of sorts that the soldering iron is mounted on in order to ensure a proper 90 degree angle for heating the insert into place. This jig/press is not included with the tool. Seems like a huge oversight if not slightly misleading thing to depict. I’d expect something clearly stated that the jig is not included and maybe even a reference “recommended for use with” or something along those lines.

Well-Made Kit with Great Features, Waiting to Test Fully!
This heat set insert tool kit looks very well made and came nicely packaged with everything organized in a sturdy case. The digital soldering iron feels solid in hand, heats up quickly, and the adjustable temperature display is clear and easy to use. I also appreciate the variety of threaded insert sizes included, which makes this kit versatile for different 3D printing and plastic projects. At the moment, I haven’t been able to fully test it yet because I needed to purchase an additional part for it to work properly with my setup. That said, based on the build quality, accessories, and overall design, it seems like it will perform exactly as expected once I have everything I need.Overall, this appears to be a great heat set insert kit with thoughtful features and good value. I’m looking forward to using it soon and putting it to work on my projects.
