SPECIFICATIONS: This ARES Impact Grade Socket Adapter/Extension Set comes with three 1/4 inch hex shank, 3-inch-long socket adapters so you can turn any power drill into a power nut driver with the extra reach you need. The sizes included are 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, and 1/2 inch.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS: Each adapter is made of heat-treated chrome vanadium steel and coated in Manganese Phosphate for industrial or mechanical use and meets or exceeds ANSI/ASME standards. The spring loaded detent ball ensures sockets are secured to the adapters.
IMPACT GRADE: These impact-grade corrosion-resistant adapters are perfect for increased torque projects, helping to prevent the breaking and stripping of sockets.

Good Quality
Used the set with my impact wrench and 3/8″ torque wrench. Set work well.

Good quality and fit
I got these for use on an impact driver vs a drill as it is pictured here. My primary intended need is for use with sockets, mostly 1/4 and 3/8, but the 1/2 comes in the kit. Inside the package, they are well oiled and need a quick wipe down. THat is a good thing as it prevents rust on black oxide type finishes. The overall build on these seems good, the square drive ends fit sockets very well and snug and the detent balls are firm and provide a firm hold… I find that cheaper tools like this have poor detent balls. The design has an extended hex on the shank, making it usable in both drills and impact drivers. This set is 3 inches in length, so it provides a bit of extension off the driving tool. I find that I need the 2 inch more, but the 3 inch is needed to access a fastener that you cannot get the driver right on top of. I am unsure if I would ever make use of the 1/2 drive piece, but it is there should I ever need it. Sockets for use on 1/2 drive that are not on 1/4 or 3/8 are just too large for this type of tool in my opinion outside of a special application of some sort.I would recommend this to anyone in need of such a set, even if it is just the 1/4 and/or the 3/8, it is nice to have a set should the need arise. Given the reasonable price and lifetime warranty, it is hard to go wrong with this.

Exactly as advertised
I specifically purchased this set for use in both my cordless driver and my hammer drill for lagging masonry bolts. I bought the stubby, impact strength version specifically because they should be (theoretically) made of tougher steel, and I sheared my previous 1/2″ extension (longer and non-impact from Harbor Freight, so I was abusing it…) doing just that. As other reviewers have said, the packaging does say “impact strength” on the back of the item, but I cannot vouch for anything over about 100 foot-pounds, as that is the max for my little Milwaukee hammer drill.I have only used the 1/2″ extension, but it worked fine with no wobble. I have spun up the other 2 and they were also true. The detent on the smallest extension was stuck, but a light tap with a nail set fixed it without damaging it.Overall, these do exactly what they claim to do — they turn your drill into a rotary nut driver for a very reasonable price. I am happy with the purchase.

Good, affordable, well made socket adapters.
These 3″ Impact Grade Socket Adapter/Extension Set bits seem well made and perform as expected. I bought them for the 1/2″ adapter so that I could use my cordless drill or driver to adjust a homemade router lift up/down at faster speeds than with a hand ratchet (a hand ratchet works great for micro adjustments but is too slow if I just want to drop the router quickly out of the way below the table). I have not tested these in an impact wrench, so I cannot attest to their durability in that application, but by all appearances they should hold up fine. The fit both in the collet of my driver and in the heads of my sockets is quite good–snug and secure as it should be, not too loose or too tight. One quibble: Mine showed up completely loose in the box. They are packaged in clamshell packaging, but mine arrived with the clamshell separated and loose in the box. I’m not sure why. However, they were undamaged, so it’s not too big of a deal. Just something I thought I should mention.[UPDATE 8-20-2016: I’ve been using these for over a month now–especially the 1/2″ adapter–and they’re working great. Not a hint of wear and tear, so I think they were a great buy. I had deducted one star because of the loose packaging when they arrived, but given that they’re doing what they’re supposed to do and holding up well, I’ve increased the rating up to five stars. I like them and am very satisfied for the price.]

Tough, not bullet proof.
After 6 months of use in my automotive shop both of the bit/socket holders are doing great. The short one never comes out of my drill and I use it for disassembly of interior body panels, minor equipment like climate control parts, gauge clusters, amplifiers and the like. I see a lot of reviews saying it broke when used with an impact taking something apart. Anyone familiar with tools will be able to tell right off the bat this is not an extreme heavy duty adapter that will last with a heavy duty impact. This tool is far more designed for quick change of bits and sockets when doing lighter duty disassembly and assembly and honestly it has saved me a lot of labor hours at this point by doing just that. The 8″ extension is also that sweet spot length where you can reach a slightly hidden screw or bolt in a dash without being awkward to maneuver around. If you are an automotive technician (electrical in my case) these are a must have.
