Great tool to register a new battery for BMW cars.
This works great. We had an older BMW scan tool but this time around my son’s BMW X2’s battery decided to give up the ghost and caused the car to enter into reduced power mode. I found an affordable replacement AGM battery which BMW not only makes you remove the air box, tower struts, and several engine compartment panels but they also require you to register a new battery to the cars’ control module so as to tell the car to properly charge the battery accordingly. We also found out the it wouldn’t exit low power mode even with a new battery and driving the car in limp mode to the dealership was not going to happen. Bough the Ancel BM500 and registered the battery and the car went back to normal mode. Great choice and probably paid for itself several times over today.

Registered Battery on 2017 Mini Clubman!!
The battery in my 2017 Mini Clubman S died. Not only are the batteries more expensive than standard ones (glass mat), you have to disassemble a third of the engine bay to get to it. There are many videos showing you how to do it step-by-step and it’s not difficult but you just take your time to do it. The surprise comes after you put the battery in and find out you have to “register“ tye battery. This tells the car’s computer not to overcharge the battery with the alternator. If you don’t register the battery, you can fry it and possibly damage the electronics in your car. None of the automotive stores in my area had the scanner to register the battery. I did some research and found this one online and bought it for under $100. There are online tutorials on how to do this with the specific scanner and it’s relatively easy. It verified the battery was registered within a minute. This also allows you to see codes and clear many of them.

Works as advertised, menus can be a bit convoluted
Works for BMWs, was useful for parking brake deactivation for a brake job. Only reason to remove one star is that the menus aren’t straightforward and sometimes the Active/De-active meaning can be the opposite.

Useful tool although instructions could be better
This was just the thing I needed to register the new battery on my Mini Cooper after installation. The instructions were pretty vague so it took a few minutes of messing around with it to figure out exactly how it worked for this task but once I figured it out it was easy. Great value for money, as I was able to replace the battery on my own (which is overal a pretty easy task) and not pay the dealer or a mechanic to do it.

This is not user friendly for mini cooper cars. I was unable to use this product.

As an OBD reader it is easy to use. However it does not support BMW special features for the E85 chassis. It was not useful for me so I returned the reader.
