Works great as battery tester – ODB2 did not work for RAM
Works very well as a battery tester.I drive a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500, which uses something called an SGM or a security gatewa module.I was not able to use the ODB2 feature of this device even though the configuration screen shows that it supports my CANBUSAs a battery tester, it works greatI live in Phoenix and the extended summers with extensive heat are brutal on vehicle batteries.They will die with no warning whatsoeverThis tester is a great way to see where my battery is voltage wise and cold cranking power wise.This device can even measure voltage output of my alternator in real-time.Comprehensive set of test tools to help determine battery health and even electrical system diagnostics.

This scanner is an excellent investment for diagnosing concerns with vehicles you already own.It’s also a great tool to help you evaluate any used passenger vehicle you are considering purchasing. (Almost any. It works for American vehicles from 1996 onward, European vehicles from 2001 onward, and Asian vehicles from 2005 onward.) I’d recommend the following negotiating strategy:• Keep your scanner with you when shopping for a used vehicle but don’t mention to the seller that you have one.• Ask the seller to disclose every problem that they know of.• Negotiate the best price you can with the information you have.• Then bring out the scanner to gain any new information. If nothing new shows up, then you can purchase the car at the already-established price with greater peace of mind. For me, that’s worth at least the price of the scanner. If a new concern does come to light, renegotiate based on what is now known.

I’ve owned and/or tested a few different ODBII scanner tools over the years and most all perform well with basic scan functions and providing codes and sometimes even possible causes of an issue. Some also allow you to reset codes (not recommended unless you actually fixed the issue). This scan tool provides both the scanning and resetting of codes and goes even further by incorporating a comprehensive battery checker as well. This is great as it eliminates the need to have a second tool for battery testing.This scan tool offers a full OBDII tool set including “Supports all essential OBD2 functions, including Read & Erase Codes, Data Stream, Freeze Frame, I/M Readiness, and Vehicle Information” and also provides comprehensive 12V battery testing with “cranking and charging analysis, helping detect battery aging, cold start issues, and charging system faults”.To add even more convenience you also get a free app that connects to the tool via BlueTooth to make remote monitoring and diagnosis as easy as holding the tool in your hand. It allows you to connect the tool inside (OBDII port) or outside (battery compartment) and still monitor test results and ” features like Performance Tests, Trip Analysis, and Data Stream” if you need to be in a different part of the vehicle or ar operating it and can’t monitor the tool directly.It’s also compatible with most all modern vehicles and a wide range of 12-volt batteries making it useful for personal and even some professional use.The interface on the tool itself is about the same as most other tools, it works well enough. The app interface is clean and user friendly and I found both interfaces good to work with.A great little scan and battery testing tool that is excellent to have in your toolbox. I would recommend it.

i use this mostly as a battery tester. i test the battery on both my truck and rv often so i can avoid the surprise of a dead battery. i am not really a car mechanic but like having the ability to read the OBD2 codes in my car. i did find this function to be a little limited though so it is probably not good just to buy as an OBD2 reader for a serious car mechanic. overall though having both functions in one little device makes it worthwhile for me.

The ability to check/test various types of batteries and be able to read OBD2 codes — Awesome! This device has the ability to not just read codes but also give important diagnostic information in the form of freeze frames/data streams. Large screen for easy viewability and Bluetooth usage to make your life just that much easier as the tool can be hooked up and you inside viewing info away from the tool. I keep this in my vehicle at all times in case the need comes up it’s readily available.

This tool is 2 in 1. It is an OBD2 scanner and also a 12V battery tester. The scanner is for 1996+ vehicles. It supports all essential OBD2 functions, including Read & Erase Codes, Data Stream, Freeze Frame, I/M Readiness, and Vehicle Information. It has built-in 12V battery test with cranking and charging analysis, helping detect battery aging, cold start issues, and charging system faults.Upon opening the package I find the tool is quit compact. I like its 2 in 1 design which means I don’t need to buy another tool to test the battery. After brief reading the user manual I know how to use it. I test the battery right away and it says my battery is good with 85-95% charged which is good. My battery is 2-3 years old. Sometimes I find it hard to read the screen if it is under direct sunlight. But if I adjust the angle of viewing that solves the issue. The user manual instructs me to install an app which I did. First I wonder why I need to install the app instead of just to use the device itself. Then I realize that the app has more features which is good. Since I don’t have any fault code in the car at the moment I can’t test the reading code and clearing features. But those are quite simple functions with all ODB2 devices and so I expect it to work.There is no mentioning of warranty on the web page but the user manual indicates 1 year of warranty. I view warranty very important for any electronic device purchase. I like to give this device 4.5 stars of rating but since this is not available I upgrade it to 5 stars.
