I should have bought one years ago
I bought this for my sewing kit after watching a Youtube video where a fantasy costume wing maker was using something similar for cutting sewing thread and cutting out organza fabric without letting it gain those unsightly unravelling edges that tend to happen. It has been a huge help.

    Awkward Power On
Works as advertised however finding it awkward to remember how to power on. 5 clicks on and/or 3 clicks for continuous.

    no instructions
Works ok. Don’t really know how to use it. Didn’t come with instructions. Sent request to Amazon and manufacturer. Have not received answer from either. Buy different manufacturer. Still haven’t received any instructions. Don’t waste your money

    Heats quickly.
This works so well. Easy to turn on. Read the instructions for details. Heats quickly and is a durable product.

    Great little tool
Got this nifty tool in today. Works great for melting the thread on my leather stuff. I like that the tip is small. That was the important thing for me as I want to sear the thread close to the leather without burning my leather. You do want to be careful as you can easily burn the leather as this tool gets red hot. The weight is comparable to a small flashlight. I will get a lot of use out of this tool

    Cut PLA like butter
I got this to cut PLA supports easier than using a blade. The video I posted is just to show how fast the tip goes red hot – it’s not intended to show accuracy. To turn on the cutter – you need to click the power button 5 times…same to turn it off. When you hit the button, it turns on and it red hot in seconds ready to cut PLA like butter. The kit comes with 2 other tips to use. If you’re looking for another option to deal with stubborn 3D print supports…give this a try. Stubborn supports don’t stand a chance! 4 stars from me.

    **Update: It doesn’t work anymore**
Welp, it no longer works. It just doesn’t get hot. It still turns on. To be honest I saw this coming, but I had hopes I was wrong. One of the tips (You get 2 in the box) stopped working within 48 hours. I chalked it up to a defective tip, and switched them out. But it didn’t bode well for the construction.Sure enough, the other tip quit today. Perhaps I can get replacements, but I haven’t looked, and frankly the life on those tips was abysmal. It’s only been about 2 months, and I’ve used the thread burner an estimated 20 times. If these tips are burning up after 10 uses on average, that’s… what? Over a dollar a use? Insane.Back to a lighter for me.Original review follows:—————————-Very cool thread cutting and tying alternativeI got this because I usually use a lighter to fuse synthetic threads as the end of a run, but depending on the fabric a lighter can quickly ruin an entire sewing project. This is much more precise and less likely to burn a hole in the project than a lighter is.If you don’t read the instructions, it can be tricky to figure out. It’s locked by default. 5 clicks unlocks it (and it will eventually lock again with disuse, or 5 more clicks to manually lock). Then there are 2 modes.1) press and hold to heat.2) 3 clicks turns on heat lock (a bit dangerous for my tastes) where it stays on and hot until you turn it off (1 click). It’s nice and heavy to hold for its size (not too heavy, but feels good). I think it’s mostly the battery, but case is a beefy aluminum with screw threads. There’s a small vent in the cap. I like that, because you can screw the cap on immediately after use (without waiting for it to cool down).Comes with an extra hot tip and a little brush to keep it clean.Works as a detail woodburner, too.
