Corey Barker–Executive Producer of PlanetPhotoshop.com and one of the Photoshop Guys of Photoshop User TV–brings you this completely new set of techniques, tricks, and tutorials in this second volume of the Down & Dirty Tricks for Designers series. Ever wonder how that movie poster was created, or how they created that cool ad in the magazine, or maybe even how to take a seemingly mundane photo and give it the Hollywood treatment? This is the book for you. Whether you are a designer, artist, or even a photographer, there is something here for everyone.
Corey starts out discussing the common techniques and resources you’ll use over and over again, such as extracting elements from backgrounds, creating and using brushes, and incorporating textures into your work. He then dives deep into dedicated chapters on typography, design effects, special effects, photography and design, and 3D. As you work through these exercises, you will start to see the potential of some of Photoshop’s most powerful features and how, with a little experimentation, you can open up a whole new world of dazzling effects.

My head doesn’t hurt
Watching Corey do his thing usually turns my brain to mush. Just the sight of him makes my head hurt. Not so with this book and the first. Easy to read and follow and uses areas in Photoshop you may have looked at and found intimidating. Corey Barker does amazing work and both D&DT books will get you to that level or close enough.

Corey Barker is a phenomenal graphic artist and photoshop guru. This second book, just like the first Down and Dirty Tricks, is not just for designers. If you are looking to improve your Photoshop skills as well as kick-start your creativity then this book is for you. You will learn valuable techniques for creating your own brushes as well as extracting and compositing images in photoshop. This book is geared toward those folks that are somewhat familiar with using Photoshop and teaches some of the more advanced skills. That being said even beginners will learn more about using photoshop in a variety of ways. For those who are just getting their feet wet with Photoshop I recommend Corey’s first Down and Dirty Tricks book.

Need help
I am happy with the book so far, but there is a lot of content that I do not currently have access to. Every lesson is suppose to come with downloadable content and I do not see any kind of link to that. Please help, I am taking this for a credit class and am already falling behind. Thank you.

Great book
Easy to follow even during complicated tutorials. You will learn a LOT from this book even if you aren’t a designer or not trying to duplicate a lesson. A must have!

Great book for Photoshop users
This book distills the expertise of Corey Barker and is as good as his earlier books. Corey Barker is one of the best writers and teachers of Photoshop; I have been studying his books for a long time. I also follow his tutorials on KelbyOne.

I bought the previous edition which was Absolutely brilliant, and if anything this one simply builds on that brilliance and becomes Awesome! If you want to improve your Photoshop skills to the Maximum, this is the book to buy!

I’m totally thrilled. I’m a newbie to Photoshop and only an amateur hobbyist but was yearning to be able create pictures like those I’d marvelled at when I saw movie and TV posters in the iTunes Store or on subway station walls. This book has me on the way to being able to do that. Wow!I should add that to be sure that I learn the basics first, I’m also enjoying working my way through the Adobe Photoshop CC Classroom In A Book (2018 Release). And, just for fun, I have also ordered Corey Barkers previous two books, Volume 1 of “Down and Dirty and “Tricks for Designers”.I’m retired and these books will certainly contribute to a happy, busy, creative time.

Great book as always I have the first one, I particularly like the forward pages which show techniques that you will use over and over again, some great walk through tutorials too!!

The book was exactly what I was expecting it to be. A few very helpful tips surrounded by a lot of fluff that has been covered extensively by Layers Magazine, and Photoshop User Magazine over and over and over again. It is nice to not have to sift through 24 or 36 different issues to get to the tid bits of information, and have it all there in front of you in one nicely made book. I bought it on the off chance it might contain something really earth shatteringly great, but it was ok at best. If you are new to the game then it’ll be worthwhile, but if you’ve been through the wringer for 7 – 10 years then not so much.

Another great book by Corey Barker, check out his first volume as well. Both books prove to be an excellent source of inspiration.
