Are you ready for an amazing new edition of the Photoshop book that breaks all the rules?
Scott Kelby, Editor and Publisher of Photoshop User magazine―and the #1 best-selling photography techniques author―once again takes this book to a whole new level as he uncovers more of the latest, most important, and most useful Adobe Photoshop techniques for photographers.
This update to his award-winning, record-breaking book does something for digital photographers that has never been done before―it cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own settings or figure it out on your own. Instead, Scott shows you step by step the exact techniques used by today’s cutting-edge photographers, and best of all, he shows you flat-out exactly which settings to use, when to use them, and why. That’s why editions of this book are widely used as the official study guide in photography courses at colleges and universities around the world.
The photographer’s workflow in Photoshop has evolved greatly over time and, in the latest edition of this book, you’ll learn how to leverage Photoshop’s new AI-powered masking features and how to spend less time on boring production tasks, so you can spend more time being creative. Plus, you’ll learn:
The most useful retouching techniques for photographers, such as how to make “impossible” selections, like wind-blown hair (it’s easy, once you know the secrets), and how to use layers like a pro.The sharpening techniques the pros really use.The pros’ tricks for fixing the most common photo problems fast! How to seamlessly remove distracting things from your images. How to make the most of Camera Raw and when to work it into your workflow, even if you never shoot in RAW―it works great on JPEGs and TIFFs, too.The latest Photoshop special effects for photographers (there’s a whole chapter just on these!).A host of shortcuts, workarounds, and slick “insider” tricks to help you get twice the work done in half the time.
You also get four online bonus chapters with even more content, along with the images used in the book, for download, so you can follow right along. If you’re ready to learn all the “tricks of the trade”―the same ones that today’s leading pros use to correct, edit, retouch, and sharpen their work―then you’re holding the book that will do just that.

Another good one by Kelby
I have a few other Kelby books which have been helpful, and after struggling to get a grip on Photoshop decided to try this one even though there have been updates to Photoshop since it was published. It’s been a great help and my only wish is that I’d ordered it earlier. My only complaint is the font size of the text which is difficult for me to read even with my glasses but there’s so much information in it, and plenty of illustrations, so I understand why that was necessary.

Another Great Kelby Book
I have had many editions of the Kelby books through the years, and this one does not disappoint. I wanted something that would be current for the 2023 version of Photoshop and it is perfect. There are many, many tips and techniques on how to optimize Photoshop CC for photography.

A Useful Book – With a Couple of Caveats
I like Scott Kelby – his writing is informative and humorous at the same time. I have about 7 of his books, and I would recommend this one with a couple of provisos.First, this isn’t a beginner’s book. Most of the content typically aimed at beginners, such as the PS user interface, basic concepts such as selection and layers, and a comprehensive review of all tools just isn’t there. Instead, this is more like a recipe book of helpful techniques for photographers. Want to change the color of a dress, or replace a sky, or replace a background? This is your book. Want to learn how to use the type tool or learn all about each of the selection tools? Not so much.Second, I think Scott inadvertently is slightly misleading by not acknowledging the existence of Lightroom Classic. As many people know, ACR and Lightroom share the same editing engine, and in this book Scott advocates a workflow that often starts in ACR. That’s fine, but it would have been helpful to devote a page or two to discussing how starting in LR can be an equally valid approach – especially since users of modern Photoshop almost all have Lightroom at their disposal as well. So, if you’re a mid-range Photoshop user, I would heartily recommend this book. But if you’re just getting started, maybe something like Steve Laskevitch’s Photoshop – A Complete Course and Compendium might be a better starting point.

Covers only selected topics – expertly
A pleasure to read, easy to follow, and will not waste your time — so long as the techniques you need are included. Topic coverage is not comprehensive, but includes the biggies. And that’s about all you can expect from a readable book about such a vast program. Great for getting up to speed if upgrading to the newer versions of Photoshop. It’s for someone who already understands the basics.

Just what I needed.
If you are looking for a Photoshop book that goes deeper than just scratching the surface but that at the same time does not get into high technical details, this is the book for you. Well structured and written. This is my ‘go-to’ reference book in PS.
