A nice set of electrical cut out tools that work with most oscillating tools
A nice set of electrical cut out tools that work with most oscillating tools. I needed to add an outlet and using a utility knife or drywall saw can be problematic so I decided to try these. They fit on a Porter Cable and a HyperTough oscillating tool without any need for an adapter or spacer. The teeth on these are much larger than most of the other slot cutters I have seen which makes them cut quickly but the cut is a rougher than the name brand ones. The build quality is what you would expect with a nice finish but the teeth are not super sharp and the corner welds are a little rough. The painted finish is a textured black, possibly a powder coating and looks fairly durable. Some users suggest only cutting part of the way into the drywall and then finishing with a utility knife. I didn’t have any problem with cutting all the way through 1/2″ drywall. I guess their concern would be if there is wiring behind it. Most of the other slot cutters that I have seen have flat cutting edges but these are curved outward in the center along the long side and that seems to be an improvement in that it lets you start the cut more easily. Overall a good product at a fair price.

Starts the opening, but keep your knife handy.
It’s a good starter for placement of one-gang and two-gang boxes, marking sides and corners, but not to cut completely through. A utility knife or jab saw finishes the opening nicely.
