Works perfect for Toyota.
So far, everything is going well; the app is very user-friendly and offers a wealth of information; the license is perpetual; and the incorporation of a little lantern on the OBD reader is a benefit while operating in dimly lit areas. Since the gadget is lightweight and compact, it can fit in any glovebox. However, in my case, this means it is likely to get lost inside the car, therefore I only purchased a little specs case. I have had good results with this scanner. I have used it on three cars so far, including a Toyota Tacoma, where I was able to use the diagnostic tools to figure out it needed an ABS pump. Although I have to explicitly connect via the phone’s Bluetooth settings rather than depending on auto connect, I have not encountered the connectivity problems others have mentioned. I assume that some individuals are blaming the scanner instead of going through that procedure. The scanner comes with a quick start guide and user handbook. The scanner must be set up over WiFi the first time it is plugged into an automobile’s OBD2 port. My WiFi did not connect when I attempted to do so. Rather, I made use of my cell phone as a wireless hotspot. At that moment, the scanner immediately linked. Setting the preferred language, nation, and time zone was part of the setup. The smartphone then allows you to download updates. There were several updates. I can say that it was successful. The device fits in any glovebox because it is small and light. I just bought a little specs case because, in my situation, it is likely to get misplaced inside the car. This scanner has worked well for me. So far, I have used it on three vehicles, including a Toyota Tacoma, where I was able to determine that it required an ABS pump using the diagnostic tools. I have not experienced the connectivity issues others have reported, even though I must specifically connect using the phone’s Bluetooth settings rather than relying on auto connect. I believe that some people are blaming the scanner rather than following that process. A user manual and quick start guide are included with the scanner. The first time the scanner is connected to an automobile’s OBD2 connection, it needs to be configured over WiFi. When I tried to connect, my WiFi did not work. Instead, I used my phone as a wireless hotspot. The scanner instantly connected at that point. The setup included selecting the chosen language, country, and time zone. You may then download updates from the smartphone. There were multiple updates. I can claim that it was effective because I had to program a key fob. Additionally, I turned off the seat belt dinger. For me, those three items alone are well worth the cost. More than content.

Competent budget value bi-directional device that does more than simply read & clear faults
Were it not for the endless permissions that this requires, I would have rated this a 5 Star product. I have a $1,500 bi-directional scanner that manages just fine with nothing more than a WiFi connection, so why does this one need location access even when the app is not in use? Totally off putting to say the least. The app is available through the Google Play store, or Apple’s equivalent, and it loaded without issue. I granted the required permissions temporarily in order to evaluate the whole package, and the process was a bit tedious, but everything installed and functioned without a hitch. I ran system scans on a 2002 Tundra, a 2005 Prius and a 2013 Sienna and all checked out when compared to my fancy pants bidirectional scanner tablet.I didn’t root through every feature once I saw that the screens opened successfully and without hanging up, but the actuation tab and health reports worked fine.As an alternative to much of the alternative junk out there it’s okay, but again those permission requests sour it all for me. If you’re a Prius enthusiast you might check out Prius Chat and the Dr. Prius app, and for more general brand application maybe the Torque app. Those all require a Bluetooth OBD communicator, but they’re typically available for about thirty bucks, so I’d consider those a half step below this (except that Dr. Prius does provide more specific hybrid diagnostics than the rest). This will likely end up as a glove box ride along for just in case, rather than my go to diagnostic tool, but it does provide a great deal of useful function. The little storage container and box are also a nice touch.

We couldn’t bypass the location issue in the App to be able to use this diagnostic tool.
At the time I write this review, I see that no one else has reviewed this item, KINGBOLEN OBD2 Scanner Bluetooth for Toyota & Lexus, Bidirectional Full System Diagnostic Tool, iOS & Android App Required. Well, I suspect some potential reviewers hesitated to order this product for the very reason we decided not to use it.We were initially excited to order this particular scanner. We currently have a scanner we use for our older vehicle that we plan to replace. The size of this KINGBOLEN Scanner is very compact and easy to store inside a glovebox or seat console. The fold-out Instruction Manual is written in several languages, so I also took a separate photo of English. It’s very easy to follow and includes a sticker with the Serial Number and Activation Code that needs to be entered into the App, which by the way, was easy to download from the Apple Store for free. We downloaded the App onto our iPad.Then we hit a major snag. We didn’t want to enable our location services and got a message, “Unable to Activate.” There’s no reason why they need our location for this product to work. This scanner is not a navigation tool; it’s a diagnostic one. Our other scanner works just fine without needing to know where we are.Our only conclusion is that this is seriously just another product under the guise of diagnostics that just wants to track us and report our information to someone else, possibly for a payback. Who knows, maybe it can hack into our personal data, too. In this day and age of scammers, hackers, and AI, we really have to be careful. If this scanner worked without enabling location services, this would be a five-star review, once we plugged it into our vehicle for analysis. We are totally annoyed and very disappointed we can’t risk using this diagnostic tool, just because we couldn’t bypass the location issue and rate this KINGBOLEN OBD2 Scanner one star.

The KINGBOLEN SOLOSCAN is an interesting concept for Toyota and Lexus owners who want deeper diagnostic capability than a basic code reader. The scanner is designed specifically for Toyota and Lexus vehicles from 1996 onward and connects to a smartphone through the Ediag app using Bluetooth. Once connected, it allows access to multiple vehicle systems including engine, transmission, ABS, airbag modules, and other control units depending on the model and year. It also provides live data monitoring with graphical displays, the ability to read and clear diagnostic trouble codes, and bidirectional active tests that can command certain vehicle components to operate. The compact design is convenient since it fits easily in a glove box and relies entirely on the smartphone interface rather than a built in screen.According to the manufacturer, the device supports a variety of service and maintenance related functions such as oil service reset, TPMS reset, ABS bleeding, battery matching, steering angle calibration, and injector coding on compatible vehicles. It can also retrieve freeze frame data, display ECU information, generate diagnostic reports, and display multiple live data streams simultaneously in graphical form. The scanner also advertises AutoVIN recognition and standard OBDII functions such as reading and clearing engine codes, checking emissions readiness, and monitoring engine data on most vehicles produced after 1996.Despite the promising feature set, the overall user experience can be somewhat confusing. The application interface contains a large number of menus and diagnostic sections that appear to overlap in purpose. While the intention may be to offer flexibility, it makes navigation more complicated than expected. Each time I attempted to run a scan I found myself repeatedly entering or selecting my VIN from previous scans. This occasionally caused the device to behave inconsistently and required restarting certain diagnostic procedures. With so many separate areas within the application dedicated to testing and diagnostics, it is not always immediately clear where a particular function should be performed. My experience with the reset functionality was also disappointing. I attempted to use the scanner to reset my maintenance reminder light after completing a routine oil change on my Toyota Scion. The maintenance reminder normally appears after a set mileage interval, and I expected the scanner to allow the reset directly through the software. After navigating through the service reset section of the application, the system did not actually perform the reset electronically. Instead, the software simply displayed written instructions describing how to reset the maintenance light manually using the vehicle’s dashboard controls. In effect, the scanner only provided a description of the manual procedure rather than performing the reset itself. This felt counterintuitive and made the feature largely pointless. A diagnostic tool that advertises maintenance reset capabilities should ideally carry out the reset through the vehicle interface rather than directing the user to perform the process manually.During one diagnostic session the scanner also reported a tire pressure sensor related code even though my vehicle’s dashboard cluster never triggered any tire pressure warning indicator. That discrepancy was unexpected and raised some uncertainty about the reliability of that particular diagnostic reading. Another point worth mentioning is the claim that the device provides lifetime updates without subscriptions. While that is highlighted as a key benefit, there is a section within the application interface referencing the ability to purchase FCA authenticated diagnostics through the Ediag website. Seeing a paid option within the software creates some confusion regarding the claim that there are no additional services or subscription related features.Overall, the SOLOSCAN does offer a wide range of diagnostic capabilities and deeper system access than many entry level OBD2 scanners, particularly for Toyota and Lexus vehicles. However, the confusing interface, inconsistent behavior during VIN selection, limited usefulness of certain reset functions, and mixed messaging regarding additional services make it less appealing for regular use. Personally, I do not expect to rely on this device frequently for my Toyota Scion given the drawbacks I encountered.

This scanner looks small and the black colour helps it blend into my dash area. I use it on my Toyota and it connects to the app on my phone in a few seconds. I read full system codes, not just engine, and I see clear names for each fault. I check live data when I test drive and the graphs help me see what is going on. I use the basic service resets at home and it saves me a trip to the shop. I tried a few active tests like fans and windows and they worked well. I like that I can store reports and look back later.

The OBD2 Scanner is a game changer for diagnosing my Toyota! The Bluetooth connectivity works seamlessly with both my iOS and Android devices, making it incredibly convenient. The bidirectional full system diagnostic capabilities allow me to troubleshoot effectively, and the active tests feature is a major plus. I appreciate the lifetime updates, ensuring I always have the latest software. The quick start guide and user handbook are clear and user-friendly, making setup a breeze. It’s compact and easy to store. Highly accurate readings were shown every time, giving me confidence in its performance. A must-have tool for any DIY mechanic or car enthusiast!

This OBD2 Bluetooth scanner is specifically designed for 1996 to current year Toyota and Lexus models. It comes with lifetime updates too so you’ll always be ready. It pairs perfectly with our older model vehicle, taking no time at all to scan. It’s ideal for those who like to work on their own vehicles, either as a hobby or to save money. It also offers peace of mind being able to know what an issue is as soon as it comes up. You’ll need to download an app in order to use the scanner though. Just a heads up that the app will request location info, and won’t work with out that access. I really wasn’t impressed by that as there is zero need for that information. But it’s useless without it, so you’re kind of forced. Once the dongle is plugged into the OBD2 port and paired to your phone or device, you can access information on how the vehicle is operating, diagnostics on the system, check for codes if need be. It’s a very handy tool. Comes in a nice zippered hard case for safe and easy storage. The build quality is good, it it’s fairly quick to pair and scan or respond to codes. This would’ve been a great tool with a good rating, but the app requiring unnecessary information to work drops it significantly for me.
