Works perfectly with VIOFO A119 Mini 2 dash cam
Things you should know about this cableFirst, it’s working perfectly with my Viofo A119 Mini 2. Now, to the details:PROS:1) The camera turns on ONLY when I actually start the engine. It does not turn on when I just put the key in ACC mode to listen to the radio.2) This OBD cable only uses the battery power pin (pin #16) and the two ground pins (pins #4, 5) in the OBD port. It does NOT use any communication pin, so it won’t mess with your car computer, unlike other OBD cables and adapters on Amazon which do use more than these three pins. Stay away from any OBD power adapter with more than 3 pins or that uses any pin except pins 16, 4 and 5. There’s a video called “OBD2 Power Adapter DANGEROUS? (Is it safe to use the OBD port for power?)” on the Safe Drive Solutions channel that explains this.3) After you turn the engine off, this OBD cable will keep providing power to the camera for another 20-21 minutes. I actually clocked it with a stop watch. So this is a “poor man’s parking mode” if you don’t want to use Viofo’s hardwire kit. This behavior is when the switch is in the “O” position, not in the “I” position. In the “I” position the cable is supposed to keep powering the camera until the car batteries reaches 11.6 V, but I haven’t tried this. I’d rather be able to start the engine than film everything that happens while my car is parked.CONS:1. It does NOT enable “proper” parking mode on the Viofo. During the 20-21 minutes of power you get after turning the engine off, your camera simply keeps creating regular videos. No big deal, in my opinion.2. No way to choose a different voltage cutoff for the “I” position. 11.6 V is too low for my taste, so I won’t be using the “I” mode, only the “O” mode. Again, this is not important for me because I won’t be using this mode. So, what other options do you have for a clean installation of a dash cam?1) Getting the VIOFO hardwire kit and messing around with your car fuses. I prefer to leave this to professionals… and it’s too permanent for my taste and too specific for the brand and model of dash cam.2) Getting the VIOFO hardwire kit + the iRoad OBD cable, and then splicing and soldering them together. This solution WILL enable proper parking mode on your Viofo. There’s a video called “Viofo OBD2 Hardwire Parking Mode Cable” from the Safe Drive Solutions channel showing you how to do this. The problem is, right now Amazon doesn’t sell the iRoad OBD cable; I would need to buy it from somewhere else with the extra shipping costs… and I would need to hire someone to solder the cables and apply shrink wrap. This can end up costing almost as much as the camera itself (Got it for $86 on a sale). So it’s just a matter of cost. But if it weren’t for the cost, I would go this route.3. Getting an OBD to USB-A power adapter. I almost purchased one of those with 2 USB-A ports, but didn’t because they’re not as clean a solution as this cable here, and because those tend to use more pins than just the #16, 4, and 5, and thus might mess with your car computer.

Amazing and simple to install. Works perfectly. No issues in 2007 Chevy Trailblazer.
I don’t write a ton of reviews typically but I took a chance on this item and its amazing. I run a dashcam in my 2007 Chevy Trailblazer with it via the USB C. I have it set to turn off after a certain amount of time. I’ve checked the camera and it seems to run about 20 minutes after I power off the car which is fine with me. Super simple to install. Comes right out if you need to use the port. The cable quality is good enough for the purpose and plenty long to run it wherever you need to. Seems decently priced and functions exactly as it should.Stop looking for other options. This is the solution you need!

Cable is compatible.
Works good on both my cars. I have a 2019 Honda fit and a 2019 Toyota corolla. This item was compatible with both cars.

Fulfills its intended use. Recommended
I was pleasantly surprised with this little gizmo. I used it to connect my Amazon Echo Auto device in my 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe. Connecting it to the car’s OBD2 port was simple — once I found it. In my car, it is tucked away under the dash behind the steering wheel assembly. Every other car I had the port was in the in the inside fuse panel. The unit has enough cable to work anywhere in front of a car.The packaging was professionally designed and perfect to keep if you decide to put the unit in storage in the center console of glove box.I’d buy it again. Can’t understand the negative reviews. Either they received defective units, or they are not using it for its intended purpose. Go figure.

Easiest way to hard wire the dash cam
I had been using the included cigarette adapter for a rear view mirror dash cam. But when I learned of the OBD cable I had to try it out. There was an immediate difference with the dash cam. I don’t know if this is specific to the maker of the dash cam or a generally functionality when it is hard wired.Hard wired the rear view mirror dash cam functioned as a rear view mirror while simultaneously recording. When it was plugged into the cigarette lighter it would start in recording mode making it a challenge to utilize as a rear view mirror.I’ve been using this for almost 3 weeks and connected it prior to a 6 hour road trip. It functioned well and did not drain my battery while parked for a week. The cord is quite long.

Caused my car and key fob to lose communication
While it works and power my dashcam. This OBD2 cord is causing issues with my car key fob. While plugged into the OBD2 port, I have to be within 5 ft of my car for the fob to work. Take two steps back or turn the wrong way, my car will not respond to my key fob. I thought it was my fob battery but both set of keys are doing the same. Unplugging the OBD2 cord resolved my key fob issue. The little piece of paper that comes with the cord says “Will not interfere with other OBD2 function”. They definitely didn’t do any testing. Will be returning the item.

Good for Garmin
We have a Garmin dash cam that we wanted to wire closer to the front of the our Jeep Grand Cherokee instead of winding and concealing a chord to the nearest outlet. This works really well and just tucks nicely around the windshield to the bottom of the steering wheel. It turns on when the car turns on but there is a switch for keeping it running even with the engine off.

Works good better that most as it uses only 3 pins not 4 to 6 like most and cause check engine lights.did lots of reviews to fine one like this that only uses ground pins and power.

This is an essential component for dash cam installation. You need to beware of the connection such as a “C” to the dashcam itself as these cables need to match the dashcam. The OMD2 plug attached to a newer car. For some strange reason some dash cam vendors have cables with wires that risk warranty problems in Cars. This cable eliminates the requirement for power from your cigarette lighter so when professionally installed is invisible.
